As part of activities marking its launch, the Support Association for Fibroids Awareness, SAFA, has disclosed plans to carryout a one-day free consultation for women living with fibroids in Lagos.

The consultation programme expected to culminate in one participant getting a chance to win a free High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, HIFU, technology treatment through a raffle draw, according to Wemimo Adewuni, Manager, SAFA, will hold this Saturday in collaboration with the Fibroid Care Center.

A non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness about uterine fibroids and providing support for those affected in Nigeria and across Africa, SAFA, Adewuni told Vanguard, aims to empower individuals with knowledge about the management and treatment of uterine fibroids, including the use of HIFU.

Describing uterine fibroids as non-cancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years, she explained that they can result in a range of symptoms, including heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and reproductive issues.

Adewuni lamented a lack of awareness about the condition and its treatment options amid a high prevalence.

“SAFA’s mission is to fill this gap by providing education and support to individuals affected by uterine fibroids.

“The organisation offers resources and information on the signs and symptoms of uterine fibroids, available treatment options, and the importance of early detection.

“SAFA also provides a platform for individuals to share their experiences and connect with others who are facing similar challenges,” she said.
